It was a pleasure to hold another public meeting on Friday evening, this time in Grundisburgh, to discuss hypothetical plans for a Northern Bypass. It was the first time I really outlined many of my concerns about the project. The cost of more housing (next to a nominal cost to either Suffolk County Council and Central Government). I questioned the arguments for regarding traffic flows, as I know there is greater movement from North-to-South vs East-to-West. I questioned the validity of the argument that a new bypass will reduce air pollution (my guess is it will make it worse). And finally I queried whether the Bypass would genuinely solve Ipswich's terminal economic stagnation... which I highly doubt it will.
Critically though, it was lovely to meet many of my residents. I saw some old faces and got a chance to chat to old friends at the end. I look forward to having many more of these events going forward, not least because I believe it is important for people to have regular contact with their elected officials.
